Abstract
This paper presents symmetrically implemented and symmetrically fed patch antenna structure. The patches are used as coupling elements to excite the modes in a mobile chassis at wide frequency band. With the studied antenna structure, the measured 1.12 GHz bandwidth with the impedance matching less than −6 dB can be achieved. The operating frequency range is from 2.415 GHz to 3.535 GHz. At the same time, measured total efficiency is better than −3 dB. The measured radiation patterns are presented at the both ends of the frequency band, at 2.45 GHz and 3.55 GHz. Maximum total gain at the corresponding frequencies is 0.6 dBi and 4.0 dBi. Simulated Z-parameters and surface current distributions are also presented to further understand the antenna performance.
