Abstract
Because the undulation of natural terrain surface is of fractal nature, random midpoint-displacement method is usually used to create the undulations on natural terrain surface in computer generated scene. In this paper, the principle of random midpoint displacement method for generating natural landscape has been reviewed. To overcome the phenomenon of pinnacle on the surface generated by the method, an improved algorithm has been put forward, which can avoid the phenomenon of pinnacle effectively, and make the surface smoother.
