Abstract :
In this paper, we analyze hierarchical B picture (HBP). Aiming at its high computational complexity, the concepts of forward region and backward region are introduced, and a new multi-view video coding scheme is proposed. The new scheme can analyze the correlations without any additional complexity, according to a by-product result of encoding the pictures in the current temporal level, which enables the scheme to adaptively select prediction mode for the next level within the forward or backward region. Experiment results show that our scheme can efficiently reduce computational complexity while maintaining high coding efficiency compared with HBP, particularly for the strongly temporally correlated sequences.
