Abstract :
Since the growing number of elderly places a significant impact on national healthcare systems a new vision on their care is needed. The goal of 6th Framework Programme (FP) Project MPOWER was to define and implement an open platform to simplify and speed up the task of developing and deploying services for persons with cognitive disabilities and elderly. In other words, to support older people living independently in their homes as long as possible, with a good quality of life. Two proof-of-concept applications (PoCa) which were used to validate MPOWER architecture and middleware components played very important roles in the project. This paper describes these PoCas, namely Norwegian (Information access and sharing) and Polish (Smart House environment) and then focuses on the standalone version of Norway PoCa.
