Abstract
Existing and emerging healthcare information systems are based on the use of electronic health records (EHR). Over the past years, European governments have identified the EHR as the basis for nation-wide exchange and seamless integration of patient medical data. On the other hand, the remote patient monitoring (RPM) emerges as a new way to diagnose and monitor patients in their homes and everyday environment. In general, the integration of RPM solutions with EHR based systems has to date been hindered due to numerous and often conflicting standards. In this paper we present a feasibility study for the integration of a RPM solution into an EHR based system. We concentrate on CEN based EHR specification and propose several extensions to incorporate data acquired from the RPM system. We present our findings in the scope of envisioned Croatian e-health ecosystem composed of Healthcare Networking Information System EHR solution and Ericsson Mobile Health RPM solution.
