  • Abstract
The combination of space syntax and GIS plays an important role in the analysis of some urban problems. This paper put forward such a new quantitative method and take Shanghai urban area as the study case. It explored the characteristic of road configuration in every urban district and the geographical location advantages reflected were wholly compared in Shanghai. Road structure of 9 urban districts is classified into three statuses: districts with high intelligibility, districts with medium intelligibility and districts with low intelligibility. Finally, several strategies were brought forward for every kind of urban district.
