    This issue of the IEEE I&M Magazine is a direct result of tutorials given during the International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) 2012 held in Graz, Austria. One of the tutorial tracks consisted of presentations by the Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section (DSATS) of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), referred to as SPE-DSATS.
