Abstract
The use of chaotic signals in digital communications has attracted the attention of researchers because of the random behavior and dynamic properties, and many communication systems based on chaotic modulation have been proposed in the literature. Chaotic synchronization shows poor performance in noisy environments, with the main drawback being that the coherent receiver cannot be implemented in realistic communication channels. In this paper, we focus our study on a promising communications system based on chaotic symbolic dynamics. Such systems show good performance without the need for a complex chaotic synchronization mechanism. Our study mainly concerns an analysis of the performance of the proposed system. Analytical results are derived under an additive white Gaussian channel. Finally, the analytical results are proved through numerical simulations.
