Abstract
A new type of anaesthetic machine called the Glostavent has been introduced in order to meet the requirements. It is based on the principles of simplicity, economy and the conservation of resources. It consists of a combination of four components, each of which has in its own right, already proved useful in the developing world. These are: the draw over anaesthetic system; the oxygen concentrator; the Manley Multivent ventilator; and the air compresser. The four components are interconnected and mounted together on a trolley, together with 2 reserve oxygen cylinders.
