Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between erosive rainfall and sediment deposition. Layered soil samples were collected in the chosen profile of silt dam to determine the content of 137Cs, and layered sedimentation levels were surveyed. Single erosive rainfall was ascertained according to local rainfall data and the principle of heavy rain on the large sand. Based on sediment volume of each layer and area of sediment yield, the change process for the intensity of erosion and sediment yield were estimated; Correlation analysis of deposited volume with the four indicators of single rainfall characteristics (rainfall erosivity(R) , maximum rainfall intensity in thirty minutes (I30), rain capacity(P) and average rainfall intensity(I)) were made using mathematical statistics theory, the result of which showed the relationships between deposited volume and the first three indexes were closer, rainfall erosivity was the closest among them. The predicted and measured values were in order by the multiple regression model established to simulate. The study will provide theoretical basis for silt dam design and dam system planning in the west mountains of Henan Province.
