In this study, compared with other dataset, Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) helps more to investigate the relationship between post-landfall tropical cyclones (TCs) precipitation and narrow mountain effect, during pre-monsoon period in Irrawaddy Delta (ID) region. It shows that if TC rounds the mountains located north of ID region, rainfall will mainly spread over ID district. By contrast, if TC faces these mountains, rainfall will be restricted over the west coast and nearby sea. Possible mechanism reveals that the southwesterly bursting from late April will deflect cyclonically over ID region, partly due to the modulation of mountains at both north and south of Myanmar. Once TC runs into ID region, more water vapor will be involved. By air convergence and lifting, potential energy can be released, which subsequently enhances TC rainfall over ID region.
