Abstract
This paper proposes a novel self-adaptive stopping criterion scheme based on the minimum iterative number (Imin) for BICM-ID embedded turbo codes. The traditional stopping criterion has been adopted to reduce the total iterative number. However, the calculations of CE bring additional complexity and the BER performance is also declined. In order to improve the performance, Imin which is determined by the statistics of the average iterative number should be used. Because iterative numbers which correspond to different SNRs are varied, the option of Imin is self-adaptive. Simulation results confirm that the similar performance with the fixed iterative number scheme can be achieved by using this novel self-adaptive stopping criterion. Due to the fewer calculations of CE, the complexity performance has been further improved. As a significant improvement, better flexibility can be achieved resulting from the application of the self-adaptive option of Imin.
