Abstract :
A method of the measurement and analysis for surface roughness is developed from the fractal theory. The image-processing techniques has been applied to capture digital image of surface topography firstly in this method, then fractal parameters are obtained by processing digital images from a fractal model to characterize surface roughness effectively. Analysis and experiments show that fractal dimension and scale parameters determine roughness of work piece surfaces.
