Abstract
This paper presents an adaptive MAC protocol applying to battery powered wireless senor monitoring network, which could tolerate a certain amount of packet loss but require long lifetime. We are interested in the tradeoff between power consumption and a certain amount of packet loss which application could tolerate. The adaptive MAC protocol, which would choose pure Aloha based transmission or CSMA based technique according to present packet loss rate, was proposed to reduce energy consumption. Analytical expressions were deduced to evaluate the energy consumption and packet loss rate. And a brief performance comparison with classic pure aloha was given.
