Abstract :
This paper introduces a 60-GHz millimeter-wave experimental system for single-carrier (SC) transmission, and verifies an effectiveness of a SC receiver employing decision-directed phase noise compensation (DD-PNC) by the experimental system. A relatively large phase noise occurs in 60-GHz transceivers based on the silicon technology, and significantly degrades transmission performances in the multi-level QAM. In order to alleviate the performance degradation, the receivers employing DD-PNC for OFDM and SC systems have been proposed, and evaluated only by computer simulations. This paper presents the 60-GHz wireless experimental system which consists of a 60-GHz radio frequency circuit and a baseband signal processing circuit. In addition, the 60-GHz experimental system demonstrates that the SC receiver employing DD-PNC can effectively remove the phase noise, and that the receiver with three iterations can achieve PER = 10-2 at the received SNR = 11.3 dB, when 16QAM with the coding rate of 1/2 is employed and the phase noise is -77 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset.
