Abstract
The electrical power demand in future automobiles are significantly increasing. A higher electrical system voltage will be required to meet these ever increasing loads and will help to improve the power delivery efficiency. This paper provides the projections of potential future electrical system loads. Some approaches that could be employed are compared to provide the electrical power to meet the electrical load. In addition, the paper provides a key component to produce 42V electricity- a three-phase half-wave permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous generator. To output steady 42V power, the three-phase half-wave voltage regulator is designed based on the simulation of key element of the regulator. The generator and regulator experiment is carried out on test platform. And the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the generator and regulator.
