Abstract :
Multi-view video coding (MVC) and transmission technologies have gained significant interest recently. However video streaming over Internet is afflicted by packets loss and forward error correction (FEC) is often used to enhance the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) during video transmission. This paper proposes an algorithm to evaluate the MVC streaming distortion of caused by packet loss and both analysis and experiments methods were used. The efficiency of FEC is at the cost of network bandwidth, and base on the evaluation results, we can obtain an optimized distribution of FEC redundant packets at a certain bandwidth limitation. Thus, the optimized FEC can achieve lower distortion without increasing the loading of network. Experiments results show the optimized FEC of MVC streaming performances better than the traditional approach in improving the PSNR during the video transmission.
