Water column is produced by explosive near free surface, which is quite intriguing. The forming process and characteristics of water column are investigated numerically by DYNA code. 1kg RDX explosive is initiated underwater, meanwhile gravity and hydrostatic pressure are all taken into account. The velocity vector analysis shows that the center of water column obtained higher velocity, which makes water column quite slender. The maximum height is 12.0m. Fluid density investigating results reveal that cavity maybe exist near free surface in this numerical condition.
