Abstract
The Finite-difference frequency-domain (FDTD) method for electromagnetic scattering problems has been extensive applied, however, little has been reported toward using this method for electrostatic discharge (ESD) radiation. Here the FDTD method is used to model and predict the radiation field. A new mathematical descriptions of ESD current was selected after analyzing several typical mathematical descriptions of the ESD current according to the IEC61000-4-2 standard. A three-dimension simplified model of ESD radiation was built and simulated. Results show that the time-domain characteristics of ESD EMP radiation field is with fast rise time, quick variation of amplitude and quick attenuation. The simulation results can provide theoretical support for ESD radiation test and protection.
