Abstract
The main contribution of this work is to give a new and explicit calculation of the fade margin and cell coverage improvement with hard- and soft handoff for the reverse link in CDMA systems. Since call outage analysis for the handoff technique is important for evaluating the performance of CDMA systems, we relate the outage probability with practical transmitted and received power. In our analysis the macrocell plan and Hata propagation model are considered. And the analysis involves the relationship between the received power and SIR (signal-interference ratio) at the base station. Through numerical results, it is shown that soft handoff requires lower transmitted power and covers larger than hard handoff.
