Abstract
Radar backscattering of breakdown of sea wind waves is investigated in the field conditions using Ka-band continuous wave radar (37.5 GHz) and video imaging of radar footprint. The linear relationship between wave radar cross-section (RCS) of breakdown of waves and its length at high incidence angles is revealed. The model of whitecap RCS based on spray scattering is proposed for investigation of scattering at high incidence angles. It is shown that composite model of quasi-specular reflection and spray scattering is in good agreement with field data at moderate and high incidence angles.
