  • Abstract
This paper proposes a novel and efficient approach for modeling urban road network based on manual marking information. A series of procedural method are applied to realize 3D model of road networks in an accurate and efficient way. Firstly, we use polygonal approximation based method to model the road element according to the centerline of roads guided by aerial photographs. And then curve approximation is used for modeling intersections and sidewalks with several different strategies. Finally, we use all the road elements, intersections and sidewalks to construct an urban road network. Our approach is successfully applied to the road network modeling of large urban city in real world. The practical application proofs the efficiency of modeling and the effect of rendering with this approach.
