Abstract :
A compact, low-profile, and planar gourd antenna with a band-notched characteristic is proposed for ultra wideband (UWB) applications. It is shown that the notched or rejected band with a wide operating bandwidth is obtained by embedding a W-shaped slot or a circle-shaped slot on a printed gourd patch, which are obtained with promising performances, including broadband matched impedance, stable radiation patterns, and occupies about 10.9GHz bandwidth covering 3.1¿ 14GHz with expected band rejection of 5GHz to 6.1GHz. The proposed planar antennas are easy to be integrated with microwave circuitry for low manufacturing cost.
