Abstract
GMZ bentonite is chosen as the main buffer material to be mixed with quartz sand in different sand addition of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50%. Laboratory tests were conducted on the compacted bentonite-sand mixture for swelling strain. Test results show that quartz sand can restrain the swelling deformation property of bentonite-sand mixture, and the maximum swelling strain decrease with sand addition presents a exponential function.
