Abstract :
According to the hourly typical meteorological year data in Nanjing, taking east-facing and west-facing windows as research objects, and annual availability heat-gain from solar direct radiation as measurement index, two most commonly used external shading ways, i.e. horizontal shading, vertical shading have been studied. The results show that horizontal shading is recommended for east-facing and west-facing windows in Nanjing area. The width of shading device should be 0.7m , the distance between shading device and upside of windows should be 0~0.2m, and extended length at two ends should be 0.1m for east-facing windows. Horizontal shading effects of west-facing are better than that of east-facing. The width of shading device should increase as much as possible under the allowed condition, H´ should be 0~0.3m, L´ should be 0m.Vertical shading is not recommended because it doesn´t have obvious shading effect.
