Abstract
Lingnan traditional villages were crisscrossed by a network of laneway and the laneway spaces became the most common and important space in daily life which combined with the dwellings, the whole village and life together. Theoretical arithmetic and field measurement were used to get the characters of laneway space. The results showed that laneway was a wonderful space in reducing climate influences on buildings. It charactered with good ventilation to get out thermal load; the lower temperature and small temperature change; narrow space reduced sunshine and made laneway space lower thermal loss.
