Abstract
This paper proposes a new design concept of dual-stage actuator model for the hard disk drive (HDD) to overcome the servo bandwidth limitation for the requirement of high track density. This microactuator is an electromagnetic actuator which consists of two micro coils and a hard magnet like a linear motor. Part of the suspension needs to be made by the soft magnetic material so that it can be taken as an electromagnetic core. The simulation results show that its stroke range is between 1.5nm to 17nm and its resonant frequency is about 1.4×104Hz.
