Abstract
This paper compares the characteristics of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) equipped with concentrated, distributed winding for traction application. For comparison, 8-pole 12-slot model and 8-pole 36-slot model are designed in constrained size. Since the traction motor operates at wide speed region, torque and loss characteristics are analyzed for two points at base and maximum speed by using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Then, the appropriate motor winding is proposed.
