Abstract
This paper presents a novel dual rotor topology for the Self-Commutating Low Speed Reluctance Motor (SCLRM) family. With six diodes connected to the stator windings, this motor is capable of self-commutating when working with the normal three-phase ac source to achieve high torque at low speed. In this paper, two dual-rotor prototype motors with concentrated windings and toroidal windings are proposed respectively, and comparison studies are carried out on magnetic field distribution characteristics and torque capacities by FEM analysis. Besides, the influence of the configuration parameters on torque density is also discussed.
