Abstract :
In comparison with other types of synchronous generators, permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) has the advantages of higher efficiency, simplicity in construction and reliability in operation. This paper presents a multi-stage 3-phase AC/DC PWM converter. The proposed converter is designed to extract the maximum power from the PMSG side and avoid speed sensing. Furthermore, the controller can compensate for voltage drop due to PMSG phase series connection. A model for multi-phase PMSG based on dq circuits and phasor diagrams of such generator in its transient and steady-state operating conditions is analyzed in this paper. The simulated results demonstrate that the converter stage output voltage can be effectively obtained with unity power factor when compared with multi-phase PMSG voltages rectified by diode Bridge.
