Abstract
A method for reducing the vibration and acoustic noise of switched reluctance motors is proposed. The dominant source of the vibration and acoustic noise is the rapid change of the radial force during the commutation, and it is caused by a rapid change of current. When the excitation current is cut off, the radial force suddenly reduces to zero. If the current is not zero during the commutation, the radial force continues to attract the stator, and the vibration and acoustic noise can be reduced. By using this method, it is possible to reduce the vibration and noise. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed method in this paper.
