Abstract :
A fast mode decision algorithm based on probability and statistics for H.264 intra prediction is presented to reduce the computation complexity of the H.264 encoder. By using TF-IDF algorithm which is based on training sequences of the best prediction modes of 4×4 blocks, test sequences of the best prediction modes of 4×4 blocks can be predicted using few intra modes which are obtained from TF-IDF. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm saves a lot of computational cost while introducing only negligible loss in PSNR values and small increment of bit rate.
