Abstract
Software defined instrumentation technique provides us with user specific but also easily adaptable and reconfigurable devices instead of unadoptable and non-flexible conventional devices. In the future, it is expected that in an emergency case software defined devices facilitates the communication between different organizations and increase the capability of organizations for common operations. In this paper, APCO Project-25 the digital radio standard, an open architecture public safety digital radio standard widely used in the world like Turkey, has been implemented on a radio platform by using software defined instrumentation technique and the communication between this platform and the commercial hand-held radio 4700, produced by ASELSAN, has been tested. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that a new or hybrid standard can run on the same platform by modifying the software according to the needs, fast and cheap implementation aspects of the Software Defined Instrumentation technique is emphasized.
