Abstract :
BRITAIN GOT WHAT it wanted, in the end. On the Brussels grapevine Jonathan Hill ¿¿¿ a former leader of the House of Lords, with a past as a well-known fixer in European circles, but little known to the British public ¿¿¿ had been tipped for a mid-ranking portfolio, perhaps the environment. It seemed newly appointed Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker was indicating that Britain was no longer an important player, if it was heading for the exit anyway.
