Abstract :
Parallel algorithms and stratagems have been developed for optimization of large structural systems on shared-memory multiprocessor computers. Structures subjected to multiple loading conditions with limitations on nodal displacements, element stresses, and member sizes are optimized in a concurrent processing environment. Parallelism is achieved through the notion of cheap concurrency and the concept of threads. A substructuring algorithm has been developed for automatic partitioning of framed structures. The underlying concept is to preprocess the input data in such a manner that subsequent analysis and redesign steps are carried out efficiently on multiprocessor computers
