Abstract
This paper investigates the application of a new concept called the "Overcomplete Discrete Wavelet Transform" (ODWT) for coding the image sequences. It has been demonstrated that: "The translated function with any integer multiple of the sampling period is completely represented in the wavelet space by one of the ODWT members." This important conclusion yields a new motion estimation and motion compensation scheme working in the wavelet transform space. Our simulation experiments, performed on real image sequences, show high quality and low bit rate performances.
