Abstract :
A novel compact coupled-fed penta-band antenna in mobile phone is presented in this article. The proposed antenna only occupies a small volume of 40 × 6 × 6 mm3 (1.44 cm3). The antenna radiator is printed on two FR4 substrates and bent like an L-shaped structure. The ground plane has dimension of 40 × 100 mm2. The antenna structure is composed of a double inverted-L strip, three meandered strip and a coplanar parallel strip. Low band and high band resonant mode is excited by the double inverted-L metal strip. The meandered strip and coplanar parallel strip are designed for fine-tuning the antenna frequency and impedance matching performance. This proposed antenna can easily cover GSM800/GSM900/DCS/PCS/UMTS bands operation and has good radiation characteristics. Details of design considerations of the proposed design and the experimental results of the constructed prototype are presented and discussed.
