  • Abstract
This paper presents the operation principle of an intelligent battery charger, using fuzzy logic as well as the fuzzy controller circuit simulation using the MATLAB6 program. The main idea is that this type of charger joins together more methods of determining the charge stopping point. One of the advantages of using the fuzzy logic is the fact that the software implementation of complex system is not computer intensive. Therefore we can utilize cost-effective microcontrollers to interpret complex signals. Having studies this type of charger, we draw the following conclusions: temperature slows down during charging, which increases charger efficiency, charging is made faster; during charging, no stop error occur; the allowed temperature range grows from 10-45°C to 0-60°C; the NiCd battery life span grows up to 3000 of charging loops.
