Abstract :
In the period 2003-2007, Electricidad de Valencia (Eleval), a private power distribution utility with 100 years in Venezuela, developed and implemented a management model to reduce non-technical losses. The strategic approach used was based on identifying the customer´s opinion as a result of the alignment of objectives, which allowed generating a strategic plan that led to the harmonic design of four (4) action plans: 1- Adaptation of work processes; 2- Communications and community plan; 3- Follow-up and preventive control plan; and 4- Technological update plans. These four action plans were developed and implemented in Eleval in four years with reduction in total losses from 25% to 12% and adoption of a methodology to maintain, in turn, the reduction and control of the loss index.
