Abstract :
Variable power wireless sensor networks are prevalent and cost-effective. In existing system EAR (efficient and reliable routing protocol) is implemented over fixed power sensor network. Approach of EAR improves the packet delivery ratio and reducing the energy consumption in fixed power sensor network. This work extends the same work to the platform of variable power sensor networks. We propose a variable efficient and reliable routing protocol (VEAR) that achieves reliable and scalable performance with minimal compromise of energy efficiency. The design of EAR is based on four parameters - expected path length, a weighted combination of distance traversed, energy level and link transmission success history, to dynamically determine and maintain the best routes. Simulation is done using NS-2 and the results are compared with existing protocols DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) and AODV (Adhoc On-Demand Vector routing). EAR provides better performance than above mentioned protocols in terms of packet delivery ratio and energy consumption.
