Abstract
Analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) requires a reliable detection of R peaks especially if a following spectral analysis is provided. It is always important to perform recordings in which patients carry out tests under stress conditions (mental tasks, controlled respiration, valsava manoeuvre) not longer than necessary. On-line heart rate monitoring makes sure that recordings are usable for further investigations while measurements can be limited to a minimum of time. The good results achieved with ´normal´ patients and diabetics with neuropathy encouraged us to make use of this methods on patients with the risk of epileptic seizures for prediction of an attack during routine EEG examinations.
