Abstract :
Pure oscillatory flows in tubes subject to different boundary conditions were studied experimentally. Velocity and pressure and the position of the diaphragm driving the flow were measured using a hot film anemometer, pressure transducer, and a linear displacement potentiometer. Three boundary conditions were considered: open tube, closed tube, and tube terminating in a cavity. The measurements exhibit the presence of complex flow phenomenon such as steady streaming, recirculation, wave reflection, and strong shear layers in these flows.
