  • Abstract
    A state-of-the-art radiosurgery system is under development that will utilize an industrial manipulator, a special purpose linear accelerator, and two real-time X-ray cameras. The increased flexibility and accuracy of the system will allow for precision treatments without the need of a stereotaxic frame, which is a large source of patient discomfort, in addition, lower dose fractionated treatments, which help decrease the amount of radiation delivered to healthy brain tissue, will be easier to implement, New radiation dose treatment plans can be devised that will fully utilize the increased capabilities of this system. An external six degree of freedom measurement system will also be installed on the robot to ensure patient safety.
