  • Abstract
    The purpose of this paper is to understand the psychosocial, organizational and health policy aspects related to the Health Services System in India. The first Primary health center of independent India, now evolved into a "Rural Health Training Center (RHTC), Najafgarh", is taken as a case model. The center has dualisticfunctions of preventive and curative services for a nearby community and provides training facilities for health care professionals. It\´s historical development and present day role, projects a bird\´s eye view of the Health Services System in India. This study field is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a critical health services research area.
