Abstract :
Continuous frequency spectra of heart murmurs were compared to jet velocities distal to associated obstructions measured by Doppler echocardiography. Murmurs were digitized at 20.8 kHz and divided into 12.3 ms (256 point) segments for spectral analysis by the maximum entropy method. Instantaneous and peak dominant murmur frequencies correlated respectively to instantaneous and peak Doppler jet velocities (r=0.85 and 0.89).
