Abstract
A Standard Specification for Transferring Digital Neurophysiological Data Between Independent Computer Systems (Designation E 1467-92) has been developed through ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), a recognized American voluntary consensus standards organization. This represents a cooperative effort among medical specialty societies, instrumentation vendors, and academic institutions. The specification defines a common representation of all of the data associated with a complete clinical study, including digitized neurophysiological waveforms, textual annotations and interpretive reports. Data formatted using this standard can be interchanged between neurophysiological instruments, computer systems in the neurophysiology department or hospital, and healthcare facilities or research laboratories.
