Abstract
A 16-channel fingertip tactile vocoder was evaluated based on a discrimination test of monosyllabic voices in order to improve it. One of the reasons why the consonant recognition was difficult was assumed to be the result of temporal masking. We have proposed a sweeping display method which can avoid the temporal masking. The sweeping display method was proven to be effective in recognizing the monosyllables whose consonant parts were relatively separated from the vowel parts.
