  • Abstract
An improved method for the 3-D reconstruction of the left ventricle from standard biplane cineangiograms is presented. Basically, the algorithm proceeds line by line, to reconstruct individual slices of the ventricle. Each slice is then filled by a symmetric progression algorithm starting at the slice´s center of gravity using the orthogonal density profiles of the slice. A comparison of this new approach with the Chang & Wang method is demonstrated by reconstructing cross sections of a dog´s left ventricle. It shows an improved performance of the new algorithm with a percentage error under 5%, while the Chang & Wang´s algorithm sets around 13 % error. A clinical example of a reconstructed three-dimensional human left ventricle is also presented.
