Abstract :
In this paper, an approach of developing high agility and resolution x-band frequency synthesizer for radar target simulation system is proposed. Using the up-conversion of Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) output signal to provide the local oscillators and linearly frequency modulated (LFM) signal, with good frequency configuration and optimal utilization of DDS, and high-speed controlling of FPGA (Field Programming Gate Array), the X-band synthesizer implemented in the paper has excellent performance on short frequency switching time under 1us, high frequency resolution of 10KHz, and output bandwidth of 500MHz. The synthesizer´s linearly frequency modulated (LFM) signal bandwidth can be tuned by step of 25 Hz on frequency domain and by step of 10 ns on time domain. The spurious level is better than -70dBc, the phase noise level is better than -90dBc/Hz at 1kHz.
