Abstract
The possibility of applying spring boundary conditions to model propagation of elastic waves in layered composites with nonperfect contact between layers in studied. The stiffnesses in the spring boundary conditions are determined by the crack density, the effective size of microdefects, and the elastic properties of the materials via the Baik-Thompson and Boström-Wickham approaches. The efficiency of the model is analyzed for periodic structures with damaged layers.
